Flood Zone Regulations & Determinations

The Butler County Flood Damage Prevention Regulations were adopted to promote the public health, safety and general welfare, protect the natural function of streams, and to minimize public losses due to flood conditions in specific areas by provisions designed to:

  • Protect human life and health;
  • Minimize expenditure of public money for costly flood control projects;
  • Minimize the need for rescue and relief efforts associated with flooding and generally undertaken at the expense of the general public;
  • Minimize prolonged business interruptions;
  • Minimize damage to public facilities and utilities such as water and gas mains, electric, telephone and sewer lines, streets and bridges located ina reas of special flood hazard;
  • Help maintain a stable tax base by providing for the proper use and and development of areas of special flood hazard so as to minimize future flood blight areas;
  • Ensure that potential buyers are aware that property is in an area of special flood hazard, and
  • Ensure that those who occupy the areas of special flood hazard assume responsibility for their actions.

Butler County Floodplain Map

Abstract

This map represents the 500-year floodplain, 100-year floodplain, and floodway boundaries in Butler County, Ohio as illustrated on the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) NFIP maps.  The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (DNR) scanned the maps into TIFF Group 4 images then rectified the data to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) road centerline network vector files and digitized at a scale of 1:24,000.  The Butler County Department of Development (BCDOD) included areas where Letters of Map Amendments (LOMA) and Letters of Map Revision (LOMR) have been approved by FEMA.  BCDOD also included the July 2005 Butler County Auditor's parcel shapefile.  Please contact the BCDOD 513-887-3413 to check for current flood hazard information.
