Butler County has been awarded $4,213,742 through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP)
for the purpose of assisting in the redevelopment of abandoned and foreclosed homes and properties. Target areas were determined by data provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The data ranked each census tract and block group, and gave an “Estimated Foreclosure Abandonment Risk Score”, of which Butler County considered the top third highest risk scores to be included as part of the NSP target areas. These areas encompass the Cities of Trenton and Fairfield, the Village of New Miami, and the townships of Hanover, Lemon, Madison and St. Clair.

Butler County will be working with each jurisdiction to determine the properties which will benefit from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Efficient implementation is key to the success of this program, as all funds are required to be committed by September 19, 2010. For specific project information, click here.
Blight in communities has become a national epidemic, as it brings neighboring property values down and often times becomes a haven for criminal and suspect activity. Blight goes beyond the dilapidated aesthetic appearance. It threatens the core feeling of safety and well being of the community. Butler County will work diligently with the jurisdictions to do what is best for each community in which these funds will be targeted.
